Ever thought of giving back to the school and supporting Edwards School of Business students and graduate protégés? Do you have experience you would like to share with the young professionals of today? As a mentor, you are not expected to provide or find a job for your protégé.

Participate because...
It takes the same level of interest, commitment, and confidence in your own abilities that it takes to mentor a student/graduate protégé. It also requires that you be sincerely interested in someone else’s growth. You won’t win any awards, but you will have the satisfaction of having done an important job.

Your role as a mentor is to provide advice and support during their job search by providing your advice and insights on career paths, employment opportunities, methods of conducting an effective job search, career aspirations, and industry trends. You can also open your network of other contacts to your protégé when you feel comfortable with their ability to represent you properly. Ask questions of the student and illustrate your perspectives with real examples; be available to discuss success and disappointments in the job search process.

Who becomes a mentor? Why do it?

Reasons vary from one person to another. Some have experienced how beneficial having a mentor was and want to reciprocate that experience. Others just want to be a positive influence or give something back to their alma mater and/or to their community.

Whatever your reason for becoming a mentor, you will find it a fulfilling experience. Nothing can quite match the self satisfaction you get from sharing your experience to help and guide others.

MBA e-Mentorship Program

Goodspeed Career Services has launched the ESB e-Mentorship Program on Edwards CareerLink. Register now!

As an MBA alum of the Edwards School of Business, we invite you to become a volunteer mentor to our MBA students through the ESB e-Mentorship Program. By volunteering to become an Edwards Alumni Mentor, you can assist a current MBA student by sharing your career and business insights. As a graduate of the ESB MBA Program, you possess a wealth of knowledge, experience, and insight students can benefit from regardless of how established your career path is.

The ESB e-Mentorship Program allows current students and alumni to form professional partnerships through an easy-to-use online system designed to provide students access to the Edwards MBA alumni network. Alumni from all over the world, in all types of occupations and industries can volunteers as Alumni Mentors. The online system permits current students to select mentors from a secure, password-protected online directory. Students can search on company, career field, location, and keywords to identify potential alumni mentors.

When you register for the program and complete your profile, you have the ability to indicate the maximum number of student protégés that can express interest in you as a mentor. Once that maximum is reached, your information will no longer appear in any student searches for alumni mentors.  Initially, student protégés cannot see your contact information. Once a student protégé e-mails their interest, you decide how much information to give them.

As an alumni mentor, you are not expected to provide or find a job for your protégé. Your role as an alumni mentor is to provide advice and support to your protégé during their job search by providing your advice and insights on career paths, employment opportunities, methods of conducting an effective job search, career aspirations, and industry trends. You can also open your network of other contacts to your protégé when you feel comfortable with their ability to represent you properly. Ask questions of the student and illustrate your perspectives with real examples; be available to discuss success and disappointments in the job search process.

As a mentor, you will gain insight while working with students entering into your field of expertise or interest. You will make positive contributions to your protégé’s learning experience through sharing your knowledge and experiences. You will also enjoy the opportunity to learn from your protégé and to test their thinking.

If you are interested in participating, Register now! or Contact Us.

Womentorship Program

The Edwards School of Business Mentorship Program, along with one of 'Canada's Top 100 Women' & former PotashCorp Senior VP, Betty-Ann Heggie, is proud to announce 'Womentorship'; a new mentorship initiative created to promote the advancement of women and organizational enrichment.

Womentorship strategically partners a select group of Protégés (University of Saskatchewan alumni of all ages, stages & backgrounds) with Womentors who have 5-10 years more senior professional experience.  Several tiers of experience will be operating simultaneously.  The program consists of one-to-one mentoring sessions (1 hour, once per quarter) between Protege and Womentor, as well as professional development, networking and scholarship opportunities. Membership/commitment lasts for one academic year (Sept-May).

The annual membership fee for Protégés is $400.  Womentors who graciously contribute their expertise and time will receive automatic membership.
