ESB Students volunteer their time to prepare tax returns

Release Date : April 07, 2009

The ESB Income Tax Preparation Program was once again an overwhelming success! Every year, the ESB Department of Accounting coordinates the preparation of tax returns for seniors and low-income individuals who need help preparing their tax returns.  Most of these individuals would not be able to have their returns prepared without this program.

According to Nathalie Johnstone, coordinator of the program, this was the best Volunteer Session EVER. Several records were broken this year:

  1. Most tax returns prepared - over 1,100 were prepared by students, reviewed by Chartered Accountants and filed with CRA by Faculty members.
  2. Largest number of student volunteers - over 135 students volunteer their time to prepare returns. There were so many volunteers at some sessions that it was difficult to find room for them all... but we did.
  3. Record number of Chartered Accountants participated - 53 Chartered Accountants in our community volunteered their time to review the tax returns prepared by students.

What an amazing success! Nathalie would like to personally want to thank everyone who gave up their precious time to support such an amazing services provided to the Saskatoon community.

Special thanks to the Chartered Accountant Education Fund (CAEF) for providing financial support to administer the program. CAEF provided funds for the administrative staff, pizza and pop and prizes for student volunteers.
