Many First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students prefer to seek the support of an Elder to assist in personal and professional development. This guidance may be a missing link in the transition to a new home and institution that can be vital in enhancing your student experience at the Edwards School of Business. Cultural events and ceremonies are held from time to time at ESB but students may also wish to seek their own guidance. ESB-Aboriginal Initiatives is pleased to support you in these efforts.
You may make your own arrangements with an Elder known to you. If you require financial assistance for offerings, honorariums, or any ceremonial costs, you may request assistance through ESB-Aboriginal Initiatives Director or Rawlco Aboriginal Business Student Services Assistants.
Information may be required about the Elder (contact information, etc.) and the nature of the guidance sought in order to assist with determining what financial assistance may be available. All costs may not be covered. Reimbursements will only be considered in exceptional circumstances.
ESB-Aboriginal Initiatives can assist you in finding a local Elder. Contact the Director or a Rawlco Aboriginal Business Student Services Assistant.
The Aboriginal Student Centre has a regular offering of Elder services on-site. You may find these at http://www.students.usask.ca/aboriginal/support/elders/
Please use the ESB-Elder Services Honorarium form for any financial assistance requests. Ideally, the honorariums should be directed to the Elder and not to the student. Exceptions may be made with the approval of the Director only.
Elder contact information must be complete and include mailing address and social insurance number.
The Honorarium form must be signed by the Director, Aboriginal Initiatives and then forwarded to the ESB –Financial & Administration Officer.
A copy of the form should be kept and information added to the data base to assist with tracking usage and financial reporting.
