This award is available to any self-identified Aboriginal business student in the Edwards School of Business at the University of Saskatchewan. The award provides assistance to Aboriginal business students whose ability to continue their education in the Bachelor of Commerce program at the University of Saskatchewan is in immediate jeopardy because of a shortage of funds. Bursaries can be any value up to a maximum of $1,000 per student during their time enrolled as a business student at ESB. Bursaries of $100 or more are considered income to the student.
Open to any student who self-identifies as a First Nations, Métis or Inuit business student in the Edwards School of Business undergraduate program at the University of Saskatchewan. Proof of ancestry may be required.
Selection is made on the basis of financial need. Students will be asked to disclose the reasons for need. Students are required to fill out the RAWLCO Resource Centre Fund Emergency Financial Assistance Application Form and submit it to the Director of Aboriginal Initiatives. The Director has the discretion to ask for supporting documentation of need.
The type of “emergency funding” could include but is not limited to: rent, mortgage payments, books, light, power, food, transportation, basic telephone, essential clothing, drug prescriptions, emergency dentistry, eye wear, and other exceptional life circumstances (i.e. illness in the family).
Under most circumstances, the following costs are not covered by the fund: vehicle insurance, vehicle license plates (for students who do not have to travel out of town to study), car repairs, cable television, credit card debts, exceptional long distance charges, and internet connection fees.
Tuition fees are not covered by the emergency financial assistance bursaries. Students whose tuition fees are in arrears should contact the Financial Services Office of the University of Saskatchewan directly to make arrangements for repayment and to request permission to register for courses.
