MPACC Course Descriptions

MPAC 808:  Taxation

This course covers the fundamental skills professional accountant require in providing tax services to taxpayers.  It examines tax issues relating to tax compliance and reporting requirements, corporate, personal and estate tax planning strategies.  The course follows the life cycle of a business from start-up to eventual sale, windup or dissolution.  The provisions of the goods and services tax are also reviewed as are the administrative and enforcement provisions of the Income Tax Act.

In this course students learn to:

  • develop knowledge of the technical provisions of the Income Tax Act and their interpretation and application, and
  • enhance students’ ability to identify tax issues, apply technical knowledge, and propose alternatives and practical solutions.
