MPACC Course Descriptions

MPAC 992:  Research Project

Through undertaking a series of academic article critiques, this course provides students with an opportunity to develop insights into, and an appreciation for, the academic research process.  The topic selection of the articles is left open to student preferences and can be within the areas of financial accounting and reporting, management accounting and control, assurance, professional practice, or taxation.  In teams of two, students identify a number of relevant academic articles, both published and in working paper form, prepare and defend written critiques, and make a formal presentation at the end of the annual MPAcc research conference.

In this course students:

  • learn to be more informed (critical) consumers of written materials, both academic and professional.
  • develop an appreciation for the academic research process, including various issues of research design, and
  • refine written, verbal, and presentation skills
