International Applicants

International applicants must have demonstrated mastery of Canadian accounting, assurance and tax standards as outlined below. In addition, preference is given to applicants who have four or more months of work experience in a Canadian Chartered Accounting firm. International applicants should plan to come to Canda on a study visa to attend a Canadian undergraduate university and then seek relevant work experience, which will require permanent resident or post-graduate worker status. More information regarding Canada's immigration regulations can be found at http://www.cic.gc.ca.

The language of instruction for the MPAcc program is English, and all students with a mother tongue other than English must provide proof of English proficiency. International students must complete the TOEFL exam (Test of English as a Foreign Language), in order to apply to the MPAcc Program.

In addition, international applicants must write the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) administered by Educational Testing Service.

All applicants to the MPAcc program must meet the following requirements:

  • Must hold an Honours (or four year) Baccalaureate degree from a recognized college or university, or equivalent training.
  • Must show promise of ability to pursue advanced study, generally presumed to be at least a 75% average in the last two years of study.
  • Must have English as a first language or must present evidence of proficiency in English.
  • Must have adequate preparation to enter graduate study in Canadian accounting, auditing and tax, including the following undergraduate courses:
    • 6 credits in intermediate accounting (assets and liabilities)
    • 3 credits in intermediate managerial/cost accounting
    • 3 credits in advanced accounting (theory, consolidations, equity interests or managerial/cost accounting)
    • 3 credits in introductory taxation (personal and corporate)
    • 3 credits in introductory auditing/assurance
    • 3 credits in intermediate information systems and technology
    • 3 credits in intermediate finance

The requirement to hold adequate preparation in Canadian accounting, auditing and tax will not be waived based on study of these subjects in other countries. The material covered in MPAcc requires an in-depth knowledge of Canadian standards, obtained from a recognized Canadian institution (college or university).

No University of Saskatchewan scholarships are available for students in the MPAcc program and all applicants must have sufficient funds to cover tuition, accommodation and other living expenses.

International students are responsible for arranging for their arrival and accommodation in Saskatoon. Please contact the International Student Office (ISO) or visit the ISO web site at http://www.usask.ca/sas/isao for information about immigration and other issues concerning international students.

Applicants from countries other than Canada should consult with immigration officers, exchange officials and others to determine the nature of the statements, documents or letters which are required from this university in order to facilitate the move to Canada.

A request for these should be made either at the time when the application is submitted or as soon as acceptance of the application is received. Please note that it may take up to five months to obtain a Study Permit and visa.
