U of S Examination Schedule

Supplemental Examinations

  1. Normally only students in their graduating year will be granted supplemental examinations.
  2. Supplemental examinations will only be considered, in courses taught in the Edwards School of Business, and for which there is a final examination, in the case where the student has received 40 to 49 percent and the lack of a supplemental will cause extreme academic difficulty. Students wishing to obtain supplemental privileges under this provision must make application, in writing, to the Commerce Committee on Studies and Admissions.
  3. For courses taught by other colleges, the supplemental examination regulations of that college will prevail.
  4. Supplemental examinations will be accorded the same weight as the regular examination in the recomputation of the student’s final grade. The maximum final grade that a student may obtain as the result of a supplemental examination is a pass. This will be recorded in the student’s average as a 50 percent. No rereads will be granted for supplemental examinations.

Deferred Examinations

  1. A student who is absent from a final examination for medical or compassionate reasons, is or becomes ill during a final examination may apply to the School for a deferred examination. To apply a student must submit satisfactory documentary evidence to the School within three working days of the missed examination.
  2. A student who, by reason of continuing illness or other valid considerations, is unable to write during the regular deferred examination period may apply to the School for permission to write a special examination. The School must consider all requests for special deferred examinations and notify the Registrar of its decision within two weeks of receipt of the application. If the permission is granted, the School shall so notify the student and the Registrar.
  3. The same weight will be assigned to deferred and special deferred examinations as to the regular final examination in the computation of the student’s final grade.
  4. The Registrar may arrange for deferred examinations to be written at centres other than Saskatoon.
  5. In exceptional circumstances, a student may be offered a pass standing in lieu of writing the deferred final examination, provided:
    - that the student has obtained at least 65 percent in term work in the course(s) in question;
    - the instructor of the class recommends and the student's college approves the award of aegrotat standing.
  6. The School must consider all requests for deferred final examinations and notify the Registrar and the student of its decision with ten days of the close of the final examination period.
  7. Deferred examinations will normally be written within eight (8) weeks of the regular examination period.
  8. In exceptional circumstances the college may approve oral examinations in place of regular deferred examinations. The Registrar must be notified of all departures from regular procedure.
